The Douglas Murray Home for the Aged is a non-profit organisation that provides residential care for approximately 70 frail and elderly persons on a 24/7 basis. The care-giving at the home is done largely by the staff, often with very minimal resources. The primary role of the caregivers at the DMH is to provide for the physiological and emotional needs of the client and to make sure they receive the proper healthcare through partnerships with the Retreat Day Hospital and Victoria Hospital, since many of the clients have age-related afflictions like Arthritis and Diabetes, as well as mental illnesses such as Dementia and Alzheimers. The staff is assisted in this endeavour by a small group of passionate and committed volunteers of the organisation.
We are appealing to our friends and supporters in the community to please consider becoming a volunteer at the home during 2016. By volunteering you will be able to bring real and tangible benefit to the residents at the home. Many of the seniors at the home do not have much contact with family and the only interaction that they have is with caregivers and doctors. By spending a few hours a week with them you will be able to bring some happiness and joy into their lives. Volunteering is also an amazing way to give back to your community while learning new skills and getting recognition. We invite individuals, groups, families, and particularly young people to join our volunteer programme at the home and to help us build a better society and make our world a better place for all who live in it.
Want to get involved? Great, wed love to hear from you. Download the volunteer application form and send it to us via fax or e mail.
